| Strategies To Oppose Public Policies |
![]() On Wednesday, Sept. 5, 2007, the National Baptist Convention of America, Inc., held its first S.T.O.P.P. rally (Strategies To Oppose Public Policies). A panel discussion covering public policies we seek to change, effect, and stop was presented. Listed below are 6 topics we will continue to monitor: I. War in Iraq Bring home our soldiers and bring an end to this unjust war II. Violence that leads to killings in our communities Change gun laws and have pastors take a position to stand against this issue with their congregants and create a pro-active presence in their communities III. Inequalities in public school funding This is another form of economic racism. The poorest communities have the worst educational systems (facilities, equipment and resources) IV. Misogynistic language and lyrics that degrade our women This problem deminishes the capacity of our youth. Tighter restrictions and fines from the FCC are viable modes of defense V. Deficiencies in the Healthcare System 50 million Americans are without health insurance in the most affluent country in world. NBCA works with the Children's Defense Fund to get health insurance for all babies and pregnant women. 9 million children are uninsured and millions more are under-insured VI. Candidates who refuse to include in their platform issues related to African Americans in this country Candidates' records must be evaluated, support for candidates should be withdrawn, and cadidates who fail to live up to their promises should not be re-elected. Click on the above topics for recent developments on each issue. |
